Welcome to ResonanceResonance String Orchestra is an incorporated, not-for-profit, regional community student string orchestra delivering outstanding music education to its 34 committed members.Resonance is open to children, adolescents and adults and provides a warm and inclusive learning environment. We cater for intermediate to advanced musicians, and the orchestra currently includes students from fifteen schools from across the region. Resonance rehearses weekly at Woodend Primary School and tuition is provided by four inspiring professional musicians/educators. Each year, the orchestra presents a major Public Concert and also conducts a number of smaller projects. Resonance is renowned for its Visiting Artists Program, which has seen our students study and perform with musicians from the Freshwater Trio and the Eyre Quartet (courtesy of the Australian Youth Orchestra), as well as composer-violinist Andrea Keeble, klezmer violinist Ernie Gruner, violinist and fiddle-singer Jenny Thomas, and local choir ‘the Pollyphonics’.
Resonance has performed at the AUSTA String Orchestra Festival and the Zingaro Music Festival in Malmsbury. For our annual concerts, we have made use of a number of stunning performance venues in the Macedon Ranges, including the Cope Williams Estate and the Church of the Resurrection, Macedon. To date, Resonance has been awarded four grants, totaling $20,000, from Regional Arts Victoria and the Macedon Ranges Shire Council. In 2011 the orchestra was short-listed for the national “Music In Communities” award. If you would like to audition for Resonance String Orchestra, please contact one of the orchestra’s Directors of Music on the Contact Us page. |

| Testimonial: "As a parent of two primary school aged music students in the Macedon Ranges I am acutely aware of the limited music extension opportunities for students in the region. My daughter plays violin and has been lucky enough to play in Resonance String Orchestra. This has provided an outstanding opportunity to play with other student musicians from across the region. It has also provided exposure to talented music directors and visiting artists. This exciting musical program is a rare find in rural and regional Victoria. I have been astounded at the level of music development the Resonance string program has achieved. I have seen the orchestra progress from a nascent student group to a blossoming musical group in its own right. That development continues apace under the guidance of the inspiring musical directors and tutor team, and the Visiting Artists program". - Allan Spencer-Stewart, Parent of Orchestra Member |
